Programme
What is ForestTECH 2008?
ForestTECH 2008 ran in Albury on 21-23 April 2008. It was the first technology event of its type run for forest managers, forest owners and forestry technical staff in Australia. It was so strongly supported that registrations had to be cut off two wseeks before the event ran.
Written feedback from delegates and sponsors is being reviewed along with feedback from New Zealand companies who attended the first programme that was run in this series, ForestTECH 2007. It is likely that a more regular programme will be set up for both New Zealand and Australian forest technical staff. It has been suggested that a more focussed technology programme be run on a two-yearly basis. The first in a new series is being evaluated for the end of 2009. Further information on future programmes will be available later in 2008.
Further information including orders for ForestTECH 2008 proceedings and photos from the Albury event can be viewed on the Post Event Details page of this site.
Programme details?
ForestTECH 2008 is the first forestry technology showcase of its type run in Australia. The first programme in the series, ForestTech 2007 ran in New Zealand in March 2007. The response to this event was overwhelming. Over 150 technical staff attended, of which, a large number of delegates were from Australia. The message from Australian forestry companies since March 2007 has been very clear. There is an urgent need for an independent overview of new tools and technologies that will assist forest managers to make key operational, planning and strategic decisions.
What will the programme cover?
ForestTECH 2008 will comprise an integrated series of practical workshops, managed exhibitions, demonstrations and field visits. This enables delegates to maximise their time at the event. The programme will cover;
- New technologies for improving plantation silviculture
- Developments in data collection and inventory tools
- Integrated forest management information systems
- Innovations in remote sensing for forest inventory and mapping
- Acoustic tools for segregating logs and forest stands
- Scanning systems and acoustic tools for determining internal log defects
In addition to disseminating technical information, this is a unique networking opportunity for Australian forestry managers and technical staff. Based on feedback in 2007, it will become a regular part of the forestry calendar in both Australia and New Zealand.
Who should attend?
Forestry managers, forest owners, technical foresters, forestry consultants, plantation forestry researchers and key suppliers to the Australian forestry industry.
